I have been a keen BF2 player in the past -
http://bf2s.com/player/44541139/ reaching the heady rank of First Sergeant. I tried 2142 when it first came out, and didnt like it, cant really put my finger on why, just wasnt the same team play as in BF2 (when on a good server...)
i used to play bf2, didnt bother with bf2142 as i didn't like licensing agreement
but if anyone wants to play bf2 would gladly come along for some fun on no armour maps, was the lack of well run servers that put me off in the end, to much vehicle camping and camping the main bases just killed it for me

fools bf2 is where its at, i rekindled my flame for it today was amazing took me a good hour or so to get back into the swing of it but after that it was fantastic no vehicles, no bunny hoping, no dolphin divers, relatively little base camping. Still wasn't much tactics going on other than charge the next spawn in force until you have it.
But we got a good 3 man crew going skirting the edge of the map and capturing the flags as ordered to by our glorious commander, he was fecking useless on the supply drops though
