Philmore has insisted that I get my own broadband connection.

I am looking and have option of either a Virgin package (only cable broadband operator in our area), Philmore advised 2mb is sufficient but looking at a comparison website they say it is not suitable for online gaming and so I would be looking at one of their more costly packages or getting a seperate phone line installed for myself and getting either BT Hub (with new phone line installation of £124.99)or BT line (£124.99 installation) + provider for broadband.

What do you think?
as far as I can tell the post office do phone line and broadband but its a flat £20 a month, upto 8mb

Toucan is another but works on more expensive £9 line rental, plus £15 bb

Personally I would ring TalkTalk and see what they say.
She HAS to get a new BT line installed which is £124.99 for any boradband option. The post office one might be good but I'm sure the small print says that you have to sign up to BT for 12 months with a new installation - could be wrong - which means line rental of £10.50 per month on top of any ISP rate.

At least with Virgin, its £30 installation and then only £17 a month for the 10 meg connection
Look at 02 broadband. They used to be called "BEThere" broadband, used to be very fast, and very reliable.

Plus if you get it from carphone warehouse you can get a free laptop and that dongle thing which means you get internet anywhere....

pretty sure the £17 a month is only for the first 6 months. Phone Talk Talk, if you arrange with them, then you have nothing to pay BT even if at heart its a BT line.
ive got BT they aint the cheapest and they dont have the fastest speeds, think its been down once for around 12hrs at BTs end in the last 5 years, and that was caused by a fire in one of their service tunnels so cant really fault them in terms of service or reliability.

what about sky and their telephone, tv and broadband packages im sure the advert i saw was £17 quid?, not sure if there's any installation fees or bt line fees on top of that but if i was looking i think i'd be very tempted to go with a sky package
well i was just informed by virgin if you get the 20mb line for 37 quid THEN get a phone from them too.. you actually pay only 32 quid a month, but i just cut back to 10mb a month for 25 quid which im sure theres a deal with the phone there too to get it for less

You wouldn't believe how much chaos (and extra work) that caused when they had those fires !
dav, spank - current phone line is in use by me an my 24meg BeThere connection. Looked at all landline broardband ISPs an they ALL require you to have a installed BT line already for them to use .

This means Kekie gettig new BTline installed for $125 and i sure that part of T&C is that you sign contract for 12 months. So you cant migrat without penalty.

Will look at SKY n Virgin Ithink.
You are tied into a 12 month contract with BT unless your willing to pay to get out of it and you need a BT compatible phone line for SKY;

Quote:Do I need a BT telephone line?

You need a BT compatible telephone line to use Sky broadband, you do not have to be a BT customer. We check this when you order. If you are moving from a different telephone company or have recently moved to a new house, you need to be the registered owner of that telephone line. We suggest you wait 24 hours after your telephone line has been activated before signing up for Sky Broadband
leaves virgin then
BeThere is still the fasted residencial broadband provider in the sub £30 a month price range.
Used them for 2 years and highly recomment them.
