I'm going on holiday next week, and will be in US during socom release.
I'm happy to pick one up for anyone that wants me to. I'm back on 26th October.
The current Uk release date is 31st october, but I really don't think they'll have it ready for then (they never have in the past)

Are they completely region free then ???
The games themselves are not regionalised. I can play any US or UK game (unless someone wants to correct me, but I'm pretty sure) on my UK PS3.
The only thing they can 'regionalise' are the servers you connect to when you go online. But it looks like (and on Superjoe's authority!) they're just open to everyone everywhere so it wont be an issue.
all games are region free, as vikki said sometimes servers have been region locked but eventually they release a patch for a global server as with rfom 1
the developers have gone on record stating that socom is region free, hence the global servers, how well that extends into the final version isnt known for example you can have the USA version of a game but you may find that some downloadable content is region locked to that regions version of the game, meaning you might have to register a US PSN account to download future map packs as the EU map packs wont work on the US version.
i have faith in it releasing around the time they reckon so i'll chance my luck.
I can play USA or UK games on either my USA or UK Ps3 all games run fine on any region its just the Blurays or Dvd are limited to the machines region (some Blurays are region free)
The only thing that may be a problem if they did limit the possible release of map packs to a UK disc for UK PSN i've never seen any other games mention anything like that or had any problems with my USA games but i have noticed that my Buzz does say about the question packs being for certain disc numbers which i assume is a UK disc now wether they take that idea onto other non UK games isn't known as all other USA games i have had no problems so far.
Yep buzz is different because the questions are definitely 'regionalised' (like the geography packs are specific to your country, the TV questions are Uk not US tv).
but for games like socom, you can shoot people no matter where they live!
Yea i know what you mean you wouldn't want USA based questions for UK players but i was more pointing out that the Quiz packs are specific to region of disc i know no other games have ever bothered about disc region when buying extras for them
Id defintely take my chances buying a USA Socom if the UK date gets put back if it didn't though id hang about for UK release with being so close to USA date atm anyway.

Not going until next week, but the PS3 i use for socom (the US one upstairs) is fucked. I've replaced it, but I'm away this weekend to visit alex at uni (basically picking up washing and taking down groceries) then should really spend time organising myself for hol's, so am not planning to redownload socom until the real version. I'm also having problems with demo lockouts using two ps3's.
I'll pick up a copy of socom while I'm there.

nah, I'll wait for the pending uk launch, if they fuck up this launch, I will bitch and moan and probably buy it anyway.

Er not true .... I bought the GTA's a few minutes after release at the shop! I also bought you COD 2, Star Trek and a few others.
